Color Meaning
Green
Exact match. Trust it.
Yellow
Close enough to guide your next guess.
Dark
No match for that clue. On Age and Shirt Number a dark cell still carries a direction arrow.
Core Clues
Country
Green: Both players represent the same country.
Yellow: The countries are different, but they are on the same continent.
Position
Green: Both players have the same listed position.
Yellow: The positions are next to each other in the game order: Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, Forward.
Shirt Number
Green: The shirt numbers match exactly.
Yellow: The guessed number is within 4 of the mystery player number.

Club Clues
Club feedback changes by mode because the games are built around different football contexts.
Champions League
Green means same club. Yellow means the guessed player's club is from the same domestic country as the mystery player's club.
Premier League and La Liga
Green means same club. Yellow means the club is in the same region as the mystery player's club: London or North West in England, Catalonia or Andalusia in Spain. Both leagues also show the region as its own column, and that column is exact only, so it is never yellow.
What each clue is actually worth
The rules above are printed on the board. What the board cannot tell you is how much each colour narrows the field, and the gap between them is bigger than it looks. Counted over the Premier League pool, with every player taken in turn as the hidden one:

Each figure is the share of the pool still possible after that result, averaged across every player as the answer. Lower is better.
How To Use The Clues
Read the table above and one thing jumps out: a yellow country is nearly worthless. It leaves roughly half the Premier League pool standing, because most of the pool shares a confederation already. A green shirt number, by contrast, is the single most powerful result on the board.
So the ranking is not the order the columns appear in. Shirt number and club do the most work when they land, age is the reliable middle, and country only pays when it goes green. That is why a deliberately average opening guess beats a famous one: a 25-year-old midfielder at a mid-table club with a number in the teens touches the middle of every distribution at once, and whatever comes back cuts hard in some direction.
When two clues point the same way, follow them together. A yellow club and a yellow country usually means you are in the right corner of the map and the wrong squad, which is a much smaller search than either clue suggests on its own.
