Name the Club

Five players from the same squad. Pick the club they play for.

A football quiz built from real squads

Every round is drawn from the same squad data behind the FootyFox daily games, covering 3 competitions and 59 clubs. Nothing is invented: the five names you see are five players actually registered at that club, and the three wrong answers are pulled from the same competition so the question stays a real one.

How it works

  1. 1.Read the five players and their positions.
  2. 2.Pick the club you think they all play for.
  3. 3.A correct answer extends your run. There is no limit.
  4. 4.One wrong answer resets the run, and your best is saved.

How to read a squad list

Five names look like a memory test and mostly are not. The clubs in a round come from the same competition, so the question is rarely whether you know a given player, and usually which of these four squads the five of them would sit in together. Three things separate them faster than recall.

  • Nationality clusters. Squads are not random samples of world football. A cluster of players from one country usually points at the club that recruits there, and some nations sit almost entirely at a single club. Our breakdown of where the nationalities go covers which ones concentrate and which scatter.
  • The position mix. Five names with three defenders in them is a different kind of sample than five with three forwards. It tells you less about the club than nationality does, but it is a tiebreak when two options are both plausible.
  • One name you are sure of. You only need one. If you know where a single player on the list actually plays, the round is over, because all five are from the same squad. Scan for the recognisable one before you try to solve the whole list.

Where the squads come from

The same datasets as every other FootyFox game: current first-team squads, rebuilt at the start of a season and after each transfer window. A player who moved last week may still be listed at the club he left, which is the one way this quiz can be unfair. Tell us if you spot one and it gets fixed in the next refresh. Full sourcing is on the about page.
