About FootyFox

FootyFox is Wordle for football players. Each league has one hidden player a day. You guess a real player, and every guess comes back with colour-coded feedback on age, nationality, position, club and shirt number, plus the club's region in the Premier League and La Liga. Green is exact, yellow is close, and the rest is a no. On age and shirt number a miss also points up or down toward the answer. Ten guesses, then the answer.

Everyone playing a league on a given day gets the same player. The puzzle rolls over at midnight UTC. There is no account, no login and nothing to install.

• UEFA Champions League. Guess the hidden UCL player of the day. Endless mode drops the once-a-day limit and runs until you miss one.
• Premier League. Guess the hidden Premier League player of the day. Endless mode drops the once-a-day limit and runs until you miss one.
• La Liga. Guess the hidden La Liga player of the day. Endless mode drops the once-a-day limit and runs until you miss one.
• Name the Club. A squad list with the club name removed. Work it out from the players.

The answer pool is 1,527 players across 59 clubs, each of them a real player taken from a club first-team squad. Every clue you see is built from the same rows the daily answer is drawn from, so the squad list on a club page is literally the pool that club's answers come from. There is nothing generated and nothing padded.

Three sources, checked against each other:

• Squads, shirt numbers and positions come from each club's Wikipedia article, which is the first-team list clubs and editors keep current through a transfer window.
• Nationalities are the national team a player is listed for, resolved to a single spelling per country so that guessing one Turkish player against another behaves the way you would expect.
• Dates of birth come from Wikidata, matched by entity rather than by name so that two players sharing a name cannot be swapped.

A player is left out rather than guessed at. No shirt number yet, or no verifiable date of birth, means no entry, because a blank clue mid-game is worse than a smaller pool. The datasets are rebuilt at the start of a season and again after each transfer window closes.

At midnight UTC a scheduled job draws one player at random from each live league pool and writes it down. That row is what every visitor gets for the rest of the day. It is not personalised, not weighted by fame, and not influenced by anything you have guessed before. A low-profile centre-back is exactly as likely as a Ballon d'Or winner, which is the point.

Yesterday's answer is published on the board once the day has rolled over. Today's is never served early.

• No accounts. Your streak, your stats and your progress live in your own browser storage, and clearing it clears them.
• No odds, no predictions, no betting, and no affiliate links to any of it. This is a puzzle about squad knowledge.
• No paywall, no subscription, and nothing to buy.

Squads move. A player signs on deadline day, a number gets reassigned in pre-season, an academy player is promoted mid-week. Between refreshes the datasets will be behind on some of that, and occasionally a source is simply wrong.

If you find a player who should be in the pool and is not, a shirt number that has changed, or a clue that behaved oddly, tell us and it gets fixed in the next refresh. Squad corrections are the most useful message we get.

FootyFox is an independent project, built and maintained by one person rather than a company or a publisher. It is small on purpose: a puzzle that takes ninety seconds, for people who already argue about squads.
